A Look Into The Future: What Uses Can Expect From Windows 10

It’s only a month until Microsoft releases their latest operating system Windows 10 - it’s due to be released on July 29th 2015. Microsoft has claimed that windows 10 will be familiar and easy to use, and that it has been designed and built to work with software and hardware that the user already owns. This means that although it will be an update, people will already be experts!

So what exactly can users expect from this new windows edition? Will it live up to expectations? We’ve taken a peek into just some of the things that are rumoured or confirmed to be important features of Windows 10 – read on to find out more!

Online features

Windows 10 will see the introduction of a new web browser called Microsoft Edge, which will completely replace internet explorer on PCs, tablets and phones. It will use a new search engine called EdgeHTML, which is said to be designed for interoperability with the modern web.

It will also include Microsoft’s intelligent personal assistant Cortana, which will replace the embedded search feature that is currently in place. It will support text and voice input, and will be able to set reminders, search for personal information, and look for music on command.

User interface

Windows 10 will have the ability to adapt its user interface depending on the kind of device that you are using. There will be a mode that is designed for using with touch screens, and then one that is designed for those who are using a computer with a keyboard and mouse. Continuum is a new feature that will allow you to switch between the two modes when appropriate – when you add a keyboard to a tablet or use a laptop in tablet mode.

There has also been a new virtual desktop added, which has been given the name Task View. This will allow users to switch between open windows, or switch between multiple workstations. Windows can be snapped to a corner of the screen, leaving room for another window to fill in the empty space available.

Xbox App

Video Game

Windows 10 features an updated Xbox app, which provides better integration with the Xbox ecosystem. With this, users will be able to stream games from their Xbox one console to their windows 10 device from anywhere in the home.  On the app you can view your friends activities, manage your profile, view your achievements and send IM to friends.

Start menu

A feature that a lot of windows fans will be happy about – the start menu is back in its rightful place! Whilst it can now be seen back in the lower left hand side of the desktop screen, it does keep some of the features from Windows 8 – the live tiles being one of these.

These are just some of the features that we are most looking forward to when they release Windows 10 – and we are positive that there will be a lot more!
